Gotta Run will host the Army Ten Miler/DCRR training group

Posted by gottarunshop on May 26, 2009

DCRRC has been selected as the exclusive training partner for the Army Ten-Miler Race. The Program starts on July 11th  and runs for 13 weeks.  It will offer group training runs each weekend of increasing distance in order to prepare participants for the 10 mile race to be held on October 4th, 2009.  There will be weekly group runs on both Saturdays and Sundays in the District and Arlington.

DCRRC will also offer a free Jump Start Program to individuals who are new to running. This pre-program will be a four week routine of Saturday morning group training meetings consisting of stretching, walking and running.  These meetings are designed to enable the committed attendee to run the Program’s starting distance of 3 miles.  This portion of the program will begin on Saturday June 13th and fold into the official program on July 11th.

During the weekend runs, there will be different pace groups led by DCRRC volunteer coaches.  In addition to the weekend group run, the Program will offer optional running opportunities including Monday evening runs on the Mall of up to 6 miles, Tuesday evening runs along the Georgetown waterfront of about 4 miles, and Wednesday evening track workouts in Arlington.  There will also be short lectures along the way about subjects like stretching, core strength and running shoes, plus two social hours and a program kick-off event.   Each participant will receive weekly e-mails containing general training suggestions as well as information on a topical subject such as heat-related ailments and hydration tips.  For the cost of 60$ for DCRRC members and 70$ for non-members (which includes a year membership), each participant will also receive a technical Program training shirt.

May 26, 2009 — Washington, D.C., tops the American College of Sports Medicine’s new list of America’s fittest cities.

The list is based on personal factors — including the percentage of residents who smoke, are obese, get regular physical activity, eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, and have conditions such as diabetes and heart disease — and on local resources, such as parks, farmers’ markets, number of primary health care providers, and crime rates.

Data came from sources including the CDC, U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the nonprofit Trust for the Public Land.

Here is how the cities ranked:

  1. Washington, D.C.

THE 2009 10K TRAINING PROGRAM: The DC Road Runners Club 10K Training Program starts on Saturday, 2/21/09 at 8 am at the Gotta Run Running Store on 1101 S. Joyce Street #B-12 in Arlington, VA 22202. The Program costs $40 for a twelve-week training program, which meets every Saturday morning at 8 am for a long run at varied locations around the DC Metro area. The first four weeks will meet at Gotta Run, then change locations on a schedule to be announced. The group long runs should be combined with two or three shorter runs per week, which will be the responsibility of each runner to do on his or her own. Volunteer coaches will attend to each group run.

The goal race will the Capitol Hill Classic 10K on Sunday, 5/17/09. In 2008, 9 participants of the Program finished the Capitol Hill Classic 10K. Several Program participants continued their training by signing up for the 10-Mile Training Program in July and ran the Army 10-Miler in the fall.

Posted by gottarunshop on November 1, 2008

Gotta Run will once again be hosting the official Suntrust Half Marathon training program that will kick off  with a 20 week training program on November 15th at Pentagon Row.  You can expect great coaching from the DC Road Runners, great products and advice from Gotta Run and lots of cool shirts and freebies from Reebok.  Last year, we had about 20 runners come out each week throughout the winter and it was a success despite the late start of the training program.  We welcome all levels from beginner to the most experienced runners.  This is a great way to stay in shape throughout the winter months and to meet a great group of people who share the passion to run and get in shape.  We are expecting to have 30 -50 runners this year with a high return rate from last years group and the Summer 10 mile training group.  There will be free parking in the parking lot behind the store and we sit 50 yards from the nearest Starbucks.  Here is the official info below.
