U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon

Gotta Run was at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon in NYC this past weekend. Ryan Hall of Asics put on a dominating performance in the 2nd half of the race to win in 2:09:02. His 13.1 splits were 1:06:17/1:02:45! Amazing! Dathan Ritzenhein (Nike) finally ran a marathon everyone thought he could run and Brian Sell of Team (Brooks) Hansons made his dream come true. They ran 2:11:06 and 2:11:40 respectively to make the Olympic team. Read more about the race at the Washingtonpost.com website.
The crowd support was amazing. We were at the finish line area and it was packed to the gills. For those of us who did not run from point to point to see the runners in action, the finish line area had two huge screens detailing every step of the action.

Lastly, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Ryan Shay. As you may know, Shay died tragically at the 5.5 mile mark during the trials race. Visit Letsrun.com for a great tribute page to a great runner.
