DCRRC has been selected as the exclusive training partner for the Army Ten-Miler Race. The Program starts on July 11th and runs for 13 weeks. It will offer group training runs each weekend of increasing distance in order to prepare participants for the 10 mile race to be held on October 4th, 2009. There will be weekly group runs on both Saturdays and Sundays in the District and Arlington.
DCRRC will also offer a free Jump Start Program to individuals who are new to running. This pre-program will be a four week routine of Saturday morning group training meetings consisting of stretching, walking and running. These meetings are designed to enable the committed attendee to run the Program’s starting distance of 3 miles. This portion of the program will begin on Saturday June 13th and fold into the official program on July 11th.
During the weekend runs, there will be different pace groups led by DCRRC volunteer coaches. In addition to the weekend group run, the Program will offer optional running opportunities including Monday evening runs on the Mall of up to 6 miles, Tuesday evening runs along the Georgetown waterfront of about 4 miles, and Wednesday evening track workouts in Arlington. There will also be short lectures along the way about subjects like stretching, core strength and running shoes, plus two social hours and a program kick-off event. Each participant will receive weekly e-mails containing general training suggestions as well as information on a topical subject such as heat-related ailments and hydration tips. For the cost of 60$ for DCRRC members and 70$ for non-members (which includes a year membership), each participant will also receive a technical Program training shirt.
